Pivot My Nonprofit - Interview with Matt Gruhn of Marine Retailers Association

Uncategorized Sep 30, 2020

An interview with Executive Director Matt Gruhn of the Marine Retailers Association.  Matt shares his journey of leading the association as it wrestled with how to best serve its membership during the COVID pandemic. The association did this by "doubling down" on bringing the best services and information to its membership and by opening its resources up to all marine retailers.

Great examples of leadership and organizational pivots to produce information and services that made an impact for the entire industry and MRA's membership!

Thank you Matt for sharing your journey with us!

Pivot My Nonprofit - Cascading Authentic Promise Mission Statements

Uncategorized Jul 31, 2020

If an organization builds its mission statements with four consistent components, it can cascade that Authentic Promise mission statement down through the organization to teams, departments and even job descriptions.

The mission statement components include:

  1. Who is directly served by the organization or the department (External and internal customers)
  2. What is promised to be delivered
  3. What are the standards that are sought to be achieved
  4. How a fulfilled promise is measured.

This builds alignment to the authentic promise of the organization, its mission, the impact the organization delivers, clears up confusion about whose role is whose, and finally, brings clarity and authority to each level and department of an organization.

Examples are offered as to how to apply this to nonprofits and NGOs.
